Automatic Pool Cleaners

Check whether any debris is lodged in the filtration pump’s diaphragm, hose, skimmer basket, or lint pot. Eliminate any snags or trash. Inspect the hoses as well for cracks and leaks.

Use the Pool Pulse provided in the box with your pool cleaner to measure the suction pressure on a BARACUDA disc suction pool cleaner (Ranger) to determine the proper flow. Adjust the AD Flow Valve settings accordingly if the suction is too high or too low after the suction pressure test. When a cleaner repeatedly does the same or similar movement, it is called patterning, which prevents the cleaner from having a chance to completely cover the pool. Aim and return outlets are positioned in the downward position to address this. Additional return diverters can be obtained from your local pool professional if your pool lacks adjustable return outlets.

In some circumstances, it might also be helpful to arrange the hose in a straight line in the sun to help you relax your memory since, over time, if the hoses are kept incorrectly or left in the pool, they may take on a set shape that makes it difficult to move around the pool properly. It’s crucial to check that the appropriate number of hose lengths have been installed and, if necessary, to add or remove more hose sections. Robotic pool cleaners may favour a specific location if their cable is constrained. Ensure enough cable is available for use, but place the extra cable on the pool’s side so the cleaner can pull in what is required. Movement may be impeded by too much wire in the water.
Aim any return outlets for suction cleaners in the downward position. Additional return diverters can be obtained from your local pool professional if your pool lacks adjustable return outlets.

In some circumstances, it might also be helpful to arrange the hose in a straight line in the sun to help you relax your memory since, over time, if the hoses are kept incorrectly or are left in the pool, they may take on a set shape that makes it difficult to move around the pool properly. It’s crucial to check that the appropriate number of hose lengths have been installed and, if necessary, to add or remove more hose sections. Verify that the hose weight is positioned correctly (1 metre from the cleaner’s head on the first segment of the hose) and make any necessary adjustments.

Purchase a Leaf Eater, a floating in-line filter canister that connects to Ranger, Tracker, and most disc suction pool cleaners from earlier generations. The Leaf Eater collects larger debris without putting more load on the pump.

Verify that the hose weight is properly positioned on the hose (1 metre from the cleaner’s head, on the first segment of the hose), and make any necessary adjustments. Utilising the Pool Pulse to evaluate your suction levels may also be beneficial (supplied with your cleaner).

If there is no movement, the diaphragm is worn out and needs to be replaced. Diaphragms, a consumable component of the cleaner, will require replacement from time to time.

When making a pool cleaning recommendation, there are a number of things to take into account. Please get in touch with us via telephone or our CONTACT US form so we can provide you with some recommendations. When not in use, it is not advised that the device be constantly left in the water. As any potential chemical difficulties in the water can affect the cleaner’s function, we advise removing the unit and letting it dry.

Equipment

The pumps run without any air. You might eventually detect air in the basket, resulting in decreased filtering effectiveness, a buildup of potentially harmful air in the filter, and even a failure of your pump to prime (being able to move water). The issue is typically found near the pump, for example, a pump basket cover that needs to be properly seated.

Look through your skimmer baskets for large particles. Make sure the pump basket is tidy and in the right place. Some pumps have a pump strainer basket that locks into place to stop them from floating and cavitating the pump or restricting water flow.

There is a front bearing and a rear bearing inside your pump’s motor. These sealed bearings cannot be re-lubricated since they come sealed. When they start to shriek, they need to be replaced. When the pump overheats, goes dry or is subjected to heavy loads, the bearings might get damaged. Cavitation may also be present in a noisy pump. This more closely resembles grinding than it does shrieking. A blocked water flow into the pump brings on this problem.

Find the barrier preventing water from entering the pump or, if that’s not possible, open extra valves—an impeller possibility. Lastly, the sound could be the result of components colliding. On stub shaft types, the impeller may come loose and collide with the impeller housing. The internal fan may malfunction and collide with the motor side. Both situations will end on their own. It will take a little while for the fan to degrade at 2850 rpm or for the impeller to destroy the housing. These conditions are uncommon, and a new pump will probably be needed.

Make sure you have power first. Is the breaker on? Timer running? On all the switches? Check the voltage with an electric metre to ensure it is accurate. Verify that any electrical connections are secure and have not been corroded, shorted, or damaged by debris or insects.

Once more, verify this with a metre or test lamp. If power is supplied all the way to the motor, the motor may have experienced a winding short. Please call the BARACUDA After Sales support staff at 086 088 7665 if you need more help.

There could be material clogging the impeller. To rotate the impeller shaft:

  1. Switch off the power and insert a screwdriver into the back of the pump.
  2. Remove the motor from the pump and clean the impeller if it won’t spin freely.
  3. If it spins, examine the capacitor.

Ensure the impeller does not contact the impeller housing if the motor has a stub shaft. Please call the BARACUDA After Sales support staff at 086 088 7665 if you need more help.

The pump should run without any air. You might eventually see air inside the basket if your lid is transparent; this can decrease filtering effectiveness, enable potentially harmful air to accumulate in the filter, and occasionally prevent your pump from capturing prime (being able to move water). The issue is typically found above ground, close to the pump.

Sometimes something as simple as your pool’s water level being too low will result in the air in the pump basket. Additionally, inspect the skimmer weir. When the pump is turned off, this plastic flap at the skimmer’s throat retains the debris inside the skimmer. The skimmer may drain and draw in the air if the skimmer weir is jammed. Ensure the o-ring is lubricated and the pump basket lid securely fastened.

General

By now you already know that your pool pump helps circulate chlorine while also filtering dirt and other particles. For this reason, you must run the pumps for as long as it takes to clean and chlorinate the entire pool. Pool pumps should typically run for a period of time of:

8-10 hours per day in summer
4-6 hours per day in winter

To perform a more precise calculation, please see our article: How long should I run the pump for?
